Cases and protection for devices

Preamble

When using the Clarinspect app in the field, it’s likely that site hazards will be all around. This is bad news when it comes to device safety, as you don’t want that essential field tool getting wet, cracked, or scratched. To combat this, we have compiled a list of high quality case protection that will make your device secure in the field.

Cases and protection

There are a wide range of cases on the market. Some come with handles (see the range at Armor-X) and some you need to get a handle for (see the Otterbox range) which can be bought from Hand-e-Holder. At the very least an anti-scratch screen cover is essential. The Armor-X range also has a clip that can enable attachment to the rig, and also comes with a handle as standard.

I have recently bought an Armor-X case for my tablet (more like a phone rubber case) and also an Armor-X waterproof case. This combines the handle and attachment socket into a waterproof covering. Very neat.

When they say armour they really mean it. Armor-X makes super durable cases that you can take anywhere. To add to this, you can get mounts for your case that allows you to go hands-free very easily, adding to the overall convenience of this brand. Read our blog article on this product.

Supcase

The Supcase both looks good and fulfills its design brief of protecting your device well. However the case is hampered a bit by the lack of an inbuilt strap, so an add-on hand strap will be needed such as the hand-e-holder.

Hand-e-holder

This can be easily fitted to most cases without any hassle. Note that for Otterboxes, which have a soft rubber outer, it is best to cut a hole to allow adhesion of the disk to the hard-case underneath. This technique is used by Hand-e-holder themselves.

Gumdrop cases

Very sturdy and well designed cases, these will survive the worst that you can throw at them. Additionally these are available either with or without hand-straps allowing for an easy, all-in-one purchase.

The Otterbox case: strong and sturdy

Otterbox

Another maker of high quality case protection is Otterbox. While they do make top of the range cases, they don’t come with handle so this would need to be purchased separately. Read our blog article on this product.

Post-amble

Before setting out and buying a case, it’s always best to consider the need first. Rainy, damp work site with lots of things to potentially bump a tablet off? Might be best to get yourself an Armour-X case, for maximum protection. Needing to gesture a lot or balance over rough terrain? Might be needing a hand-strap add-on for your case to prevent accidental drops.

If you choose the right case for the job and get the ideal add-ons, you’ll be able to feel much more secure when taking your essenial device out into the field.
