I just got excited about retaining walls!

I have been busting to produce this retaining walls inspection template for the Clarinspect Public Library since I completed the bridge inspection template - and now it's here! This is part of our push to produce a range of professional inspection templates for engineers to pick up, and then get some immediate benefits.

The Standard

Retaining wall inspections are based on the New Zealand Transport Agency policy NZTA S6:2015 (or some minor variation thereof) and this is the basis for the mobile Clarinspect form, and the output report (checklist and defect register).

In the field

The Inspection on the Tablet covers the wall physical inventory, the identity of the wall in the original database system (usually RAMM) as well as the state of the wall elements. The system allows for the addition of multiple defects per element - an essential extension to the standard and allows for more effective downstream works planning.

Being on a tablet provides the benefits of recording GPS, camera direction and also annotating photos - an immediate improvement on paper-based systems.

Reporting and getting the best from your data

Reproducing standard checksheets is one aspect of automating an inspection process - and this ensures that downstream processes are impacted as little as possible. From the retaining wall inspection data though we can also produce a defects register, and also separate out the Health and Safety forms, routing them to the H&S officer assigned to the project.

As soon as the inspection is completed the engineer can obtain a draft report, and also a summary of defects - without doing any error prone and time consuming transcription of notes, or downloading of any photos.

Next up...

There is always a 'Next up!' and in this case it is gantries and the of course bus shelters and signage!!
