I just got excited about a bridge inspection!

I have been busting to produce this bridge inspection template for the  Clarinspect public library since forever - and now it's here! It's not just the inspection of the bridge that got me going though, but the amount of time engineers can save in producing their reports.

The Standard

Bridge inspections are based on the New Zealand Transport Agency policy NZTA S6:2015 (or some minor variation thereof) and this is the basis for the mobile Clarinspect form, and the output report and data.

In the field

The Inspection on the Tablet covers the multi-span and single span cases, and also allows for raw data export and neatly formatted reports. Being on a tablet provides the benefits of recording GPS, camera direction and also annotating photos - an immediate improvement on paper-based systems.

Reporting... but wait there's more!

What really rocks my world is when a client can use and re-use their data. I had the opportunity of going beyond the standard report - and produced an additional defect report, again automatically derived from the same data-set. This is something you can hand immediately to a contractor.

As soon as the inspection is completed the engineer can obtain a draft report, and also a summary of defects - without doing any error prone and time consuming transcription of notes, or downloading of any photos.

... Retaining Walls, and yes, I will probably get excited about these too - once I have finished crowing over the shiny new WorkSafeNZ templates...
